Yes and No. It depends on how many new people have joined the club. We limit the number of new people joining in order to provide enough instruction to get you shooting safely and proficiently.

No previous experience is needed. All equipment, bows, arrows, gloves are provided by the club for beginners. Uniforms are not required for beginners and are not provided by the club.

You must be at least 16 years old.
When will I be expected to buy my own equipment?

Uniform, bow, arrows and gloves will be $1200 or more depending on the quality of your selection. It’s best to start with beginner quality equipment and upgrade as you gain more experience. We will help you in the ordering process. It’s expensive and comes from Japan. Most club members buy online from kyudo shops in Japan.
Will I be able to practice shooting with a bow and arrow from day one of practice?
No. It will take 3-4 months or longer before you’re allowed to shoot. Everyone progresses at a different rate, and you’ll learn the basics of kyudo, the 8 stages of shooting called “Hassetsu”. Safety is of utmost importance and will be constantly reinforced.
What are the expectations of being a club member?
Kyudo is martial art and requires a certain amount of discipline. Kyudo is performed quietly, so it’s important to keep voices low in the dojo. Humbleness, respect, sincerity and a spirit of cooperation are traits of a good kyudo practitioner.
